Hi, I am Janet Hakeney. I am English, but I now live in Portugal near to Caldas da Rainha. I own two Lusitano horses. I rode, competed and hunted as a child with the British Pony Club. After leaving school I qualified as a British Horse Society Intermediate Teacher and later as a specialist Rider Biomechanics Coach and as an Equine Dental Technician. Some of the things I have done with horses in my lifetime include...Dressage, Eventing, Equestrian Theatre, Western Reining, Police Horses, breeding Lusitanos, and Working Equitation.
Natural Horsemanship
When I discovered Natural Horsemanship in the 1990's it was like a blinding flash of light. It just made so much sense and filled in all the gaps. I suddenly realised that I didn't know as much about horses as I thought I did. I didn't know what motivated them or how they were feeling about things. Learning about Natural Horsemanship revolutionised the way I dealt with horses and brought the fun back into my human/ horse relationships. I have been teaching Natural Horsemanship for about 5 years and I love to see the rapid improvements that can be made when you empower people to read their horses and to understand that Horsemanship is about a lot more than just riding!
